Programs and Studies (IPS) provides leadership through its
coordination, promotion, and support of international efforts across
the campus. Through its various units, IPS fosters the development of
international expertise by facilitating faculty and student research
abroad, coordinating international exchanges, and supporting scholarly
activities as well as providing linkages to international resources for
the larger community. IPS also provides administrative oversight and
support services to programs that allow Illinois to grow and maintain
its extensive endeavors.

Global Crossroads Living and Learning Community Global Crossroads Living-Learning Community is a special program in University Housing designed to challenge and motivate students whose interests, experiences, and aspirations have a strong international component. With resources and support from University Housing, Student Affairs, and the Office of the Provost, Global Crossroads provides on-site courses with an international focus, a faculty speaker series, a guest-in-residence program, and specially designed programs emphasizing cross-cultural interaction with both intellectual and social dimensions. Institutional and Faculty International Collaboration The office of Institutional & Faculty International Collaboration (IFIC) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign plays a key role in advancing the university's efforts in the areas of international research and education. The primary responsibilities of the office include drafting, negotiating, and processing formal agreements between the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois and foreign partner universities, institutions, foundations, and research agencies. IFIC also maintains a database of current and pending international agreements, as well as an archive of past agreements.
International Engagement, Communications, and Protocol International Engagement, Communications and Protocol (IECP) promotes the University of Illinois' global reach and achievements in research, teaching, and public engagement to both internal and external constituencies and acts as an information resource for groups outside of the campus. To this end, IECP coordinates projects such as the Illinois International Review, Global Viewpoint, and a television program, "Illinois International." In addition to these functions, IECP also serves as the campus protocol office, offering advising services for departments or colleges hosting national or international governmental representatives.
International Forum for US Studies The study of U.S. culture takes place among scholars in many parts of
the globe, but most scholars of U.S. culture living and working in the
United States are unfamiliar with this work by their foreign
colleagues. The Forum works to internationalize the practice of
"American Studies" in the U.S. by placing foreign and domestic scholars
in dialogue. Simultaneously, it fosters scholarly relations across
multiple national boundaries and regions outside the United States by
bringing scholars from all parts of the globe together for shared
research residencies and conferences. It is our belief that these
multiple angles of vision, forged in the academic traditions and
national contexts of each participant's scholarly community, will yield
a more complex understanding of the many facets of U.S. culture than is
otherwise possible.
International Student and Scholar Services The staff of the International Student and Scholar Services office (ISSS) is committed to providing culturally sensitive services of the highest quality to international students and scholars. ISSS staff utilize their collective experience in language, culture, federal regulations, document production and social and academic programming to enrich the stay of international students, scholars, and their families. Assistance begins prior to arrival on campus through welcome letters and information, continues once the student or scholar arrives on campus with comprehensive check-in and orientation programs, and follows throughout the individual’s stay on campus. ISSS staff is available to advise international students and scholars on federal immigration regulations affecting their stay at the University of Illinois. ISSS also provides assistance to University units wishing to host international scholars or hire international faculty and staff.
