ILSA (Illini Study Abroad Scholarships)

This scholarship fund, started by study abroad student returnees to benefit their peers, aims to simultaneously raise funds for a yearly undergraduate scholarship while working toward a permanent $50,000 study abroad endowment.

International Programs and Studies
International Programs and Studies at the University of Illinois coordinates, promotes, and supports international activities designed to help students and the public understand and deal with global opportunities and challenges. Through its various units, IPS fosters the development of international expertise by supporting faculty research, promoting and facilitating study abroad and exchange among students, increasing the international content of academic programs, and sponsoring public events and progra ms on international issues. Your gift will enable IPS to continue and expand these programs that will help prepare the next generation of leaders and citizens to deal with profound and complex global issues that face our state, our nation, and our world.

Program in Arms Control, Disarmament, and International Security
For the past twenty-five years, the Program in Arms Control, Disarmament and International Security has provided interdisciplinary graduate training and fostered faculty research on critical issues related to peace and security. The ACDIS Directors Fund h as been established to recognize the contributions of the program's directors during its first twenty-five years. The ACDIS Directors Fund will provide support for students associated with ACDIS programs, including support for student research and study i n developing countries. Ultimately, we hope the endowment will support a graduate student fellowship.

European Union Center
The European Union Center at the University of Illinois is one of only eleven centers in the nation established by the European Commission to study and conduct research on EU - U.S. relations. The Illinois EUC offers interdisciplinary graduate seminars, o pportunities for graduate student research in the European Union, grants for faculty research and course development, international conferences on issues of importance to the EU and the U.S., and public programs that raise awareness about the EU and its r elationship with the United States. Your gift will help the EU Center achieve its mission by supporting graduate student fellowships, travel grants, and faculty research grants.

Illinois International Scholars Fund (Study Abroad Office)
The IPS Study Abroad Office helps Illinois students gain a global perspective by providing opportunities to live and study in a foreign country. A national leader in international education, SAO operates more than four dozen exchange programs in fifty cou ntries as well as a dozen or more Illinois courses abroad. The Illinois International Scholars program was established in 2001 to help make studying abroad more affordable for Illinois students. By contributing to Illinois International Scholars, you can help students gain international training and experience that will broaden their perspectives, enrich their lives, and prepare them for the challenges and opportunities of our increasingly global environment.

Joan Solaun Honorary Study Abroad Scholarship Fund
Joan Solaún served as director of the UI Study Abroad Office for twenty-three years. During her tenure, Joan helped transform study abroad at Illinois from a small program that served only a few hundred students a year to one of the largest programs in th e country. Today, thanks to Joan's leadership, the University of Illinois sends more than 1,400 students to study in more than fifty countries each year and consistently ranks among the nation's top ten study abroad programs. The Joan Solaún Honorary Stud y Abroad Scholarship honors Joan's many contributions to study abroad at the University of Illinois and, at the same time, helps make studying abroad more affordable for deserving UI students.

In selecting recipients, preference will be given to female students whose work promises to make significant contributions to the improvement of women's lives and gender equity in the developing world. One quarter of the funding will be made available to African women.

International Support Fund
As our nation develops new laws and more tightly enforces existing laws that regulate visitors to the United States, international students, faculty, and staff at the University of Illinois find themselves facing new requirements and the real possibility of incurring additional costs during their stay in the U.S. These costs can include travel and lodging for required reporting to regional INS offices, expenses incurred while waiting for visa clearance to return to their jobs in the U.S., and the cost of legal and professional assistance, among others.

To help international faculty, staff, and students deal with unexpected difficulties and expenses, we have established the International Support Fund. The fund is supported through generous contributions from UI faculty and staff. Your gift to the fund will provide needed financial assistance for our international colleagues and, at the same time, help demonstrate how much we value them as members of our academic community. You can make your tax-deductible gift by clicking on the link below, which will take you to the University of Illinois Foundation secure site.

Friends of Women and Gender in Global Perspectives
