The office of Institutional & Faculty International Collaboration (IFIC) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign plays a key role in advancing the university's efforts in the areas of international research and education. The primary responsibilities of the office include drafting, negotiating, and processing formal agreements between the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois and foreign partner universities, institutions, foundations, and research agencies. IFIC also maintains a database of current and pending international agreements, as well as an archive of past agreements.
In addition, IFIC administers several ongoing, campus-wide faculty exchange programs, including the UIUC/CNRS Cooperative Research Program with the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and the UIUC/INRIA Cooperative Research Program with the Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique (INRIA) in France, as well as the UIUC/KUL Faculty Exchange Program with Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium.
IFIC also serves as first point of contact for short-term academic visitors to the Urbana-Champaign campus, including visiting delegations from current and potential partner institutions, and visiting administrative officials from various ministries of education and other government agencies. For these visits, which can range in length from one day to several weeks, IFIC arranges itineraries and accommodations, provides logistical support, and escorts visitors around campus. IFIC also serves as the primary campus contact office for incoming visiting scholars under the Fulbright Scholar Program, by liaising with the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) and providing assistance to newly arriving Fulbright Scholars in securing lodging and settling in to our community.
IFIC reports jointly to the Vice Chancellor for Research and the Associate Provost for International Affairs.
